Raymond Pickering went home to his Lord and Savior on May 31st, 2022, in Mayfield, Oklahoma.

Raymond Elwood Pickering was born on a farm in the Banner Hill Community near Guthrie, Oklahoma to Martha (Inskeep) Pickering and Earl Clayton Pickering on October 6th, 1928. He graduated high school in Guthrie and joined the army in 1946. He served in Sendai, Japan and received an Honorable Discharge in 1948. 

Raymond enrolled at Oklahoma Baptist University in 1948 and graduated in 1951. While at OBU, he met his wife, Imogene Alexander, and they were married on June 23rd, 1952. Raymond pastored churches in Choeska, Simon, Orr, and Hext, OK, and Mayfield, TX.He taught school in Ft. Hancock, TX, Reydon and Sweetwater, OK and Stebbins, AK.

In 1962, he chose to take over the Alexander farm for Imogene’s father. Raymond was also active at Sweetwater Baptist Church, as deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and adult teacher.Preceding Raymond in death were his wife Imogene, mother Martha, father Earl, stepmother Hattie (Williams) Pickering, sister Barbara Moyer, niece Jennifer Moyer, brothers Albert Pickering, Melvin Pickering, and Charles Pickering, sisters-in-law Mary Lou Pickering, Helen Pickering, and Laurah Kilbourn.

Mourning his loss are his son, Floyd Pickering and his wife Nola Pickering of Elk City, Oklahoma; daughter Cheryl Layfield of Sweetwater, Oklahoma; sister Earlene Bradshaw of Houston, Texas; brothers, Kenneth Pickering and his wife Pat Pickering of Kingston, Oklahoma and Charles Kilbourne, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Jesse Wester and his wife Laura Wester of Medford, Oregon, Emily Webster of Lincoln, Alabama, and Sarah Grant and her husband Ben of Sweetwater, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren Paxton Wester, Grayson Webster, Connor Webster, Cara Grant, Haley Grant, Abigail Grant, and Caleb Grant, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, other extended family members, and countless friends.
