Longtime Erick resident Jesse (Andy) Andrew McDowell passed from this life on October 4, 2020, in Sayre, OK at the age of 92 years, 4 months and 6 days. Andy was born to his parents Thomas and Laura (Peugh) McDowell May 28, 1928, in Erick, OK.
Andy grew up on the family farm with his 7 siblings. Farm life was hard, but times were good. He entered the United States Army and served his country faithfully from April 24, 1948, until January 23, 1950, with an Honorable discharge.
In the early years of their life together, Andy and Elsie owned and ran a café on the very same property where they resided finally in Erick, as well as owning other restaurants in other towns. Andy spent many years driving trucks for Wilcox Trucking before starting his own trucking business hauling livestock and grains. He hauled in all the equipment for the Wilhelm Honey Farm when it began to make candles.
After retiring from the trucking business, he had a farm outside of Erick where he and Elsie raised cattle.
Andy is preceded in death by his wife Elsie McDowell (July 23, 2019); his parents: Thomas and Laura McDowell; 3 brothers: Herbert, Granville, and Johnny McDowell; 3 sisters: Luella Brewer, Patsy Manrey and Ruby Smith.
Surviving Andy include his 1 brother: Harold McDowell; children: Linda Moore and husband Gary of Lubbock TX, Doris Barnes and husband Wayne of Sayre, OK, Steven McDowell and wife Jenny of Erick, OK, Joyce Sutton and husband Todd of Erick, OK; grandchildren: Linda Moore, Gary Moore, Shayla (Sutton) Hogg, Brittany (McDowell) Lehmen, Nicholas McDowell, Lacie (McDowell) Waldron, and Lorene Barns; several great grandchildren as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, October 9, 2020, at Erick Cemetery with Pastor Charlie Floyd officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM ~ 5:00 PM, Thursday, October 8, 2020, at Rose Chapel, Sayre.
