Longtime Erick resident Mr. Freddie Don Head passed from this life into Heaven Monday afternoon, February 14, 2022, at the age of 79 years, 3 months, and 16 days in Sayre, OK. Don was born October 29, 1942, to his parents Fred and Grace (Gilliland) Head in Sayre, OK.
Don grew up and graduated high school in Delhi, OK. He attended Bethany Nazarene and Southwestern Oklahoma State University where he graduated with his bachelor’s degree. Don continued his education to graduate with a major degree in science. He and Gayla Webster married August 27, 1965, in Lawton, OK. He told everyone that he married the prettiest girl in the world. He enjoyed taking trips to Red River, New Mexico and staying in the family cabin. He enjoyed trout fishing and relaxing in the cool, rainy weather. He served his community by serving for 12 years on the Erick school board, the cotton board and Northfork Electric Co-Op board. Don was a faithful Deacon and Sunday school teacher at Texola Baptist Church.
Preceding Don in death is his parents, and 1 sister, Norma Jean Phenix.
Although Don is no longer with us, his memory and legacy will be kept alive through the family and friends he leaves behind which include: his wife of 57 years Gayla Head of the home, 1 daughter: Jean Ann Street and husband Lynton of Erick, OK; 1 son: Todd Sutton and wife Joyce of Erick, OK; 2 granddaughters: Shayla Hogg and husband Dustin and Sydney Leibold and husband Karson; twin great granddaughters, Hattee Mae and Charlee Kate, along with a host of longtime friends, neighbors, and church family.
Don always said his greatest accomplishments in life were his kids. He believed that if you raise your family in church and teach them to love the Lord, then that was the greatest gift you could give your children.
Don helped anyone who needed it. He always put others before himself and never asked for anything in return. He fed every stray animal that he came across, with the exception of rattlesnakes. Those who knew him can attest to his snake hunting abilities.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at Erick Cemetery with Pastor Charlie Floyd officiating.
Services are under the direction of Rose Chapel, Sayre.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Texola or to the Erick Volunteer Fire Department.
