Edward Ray Toon, the only son of Earlton Ray and Linnia Lee (Richardson) Toon was born on his mother’s birthday, June 16, 1956, in Sayre, Beckham County, Oklahoma. He went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 29th, 2022. Ed attended Sayre Public Schools where in later years he enjoyed playing drums and the Business Education classes. During his school years, Ed achieved the highest rank in Scouting, the Eagle Scout with a Silver Palm. He loved camping, fishing, and helping others achieve higher ranks in Scouting.
Ed was baptized into the First Baptist Church at Sayre, and he attended R.A.s and Falls Creek. Ed went on wheat harvest and later graduated from Sayre Jr. College with a Degree in Mid-Management. He loved working at the Stovall Theater, later opening his own business, Peddler’s Corner. Ed worked digging ditches for the oilfield pipe line and later worked at Sayre Abstract learning about oil and gas leases. He later traveled to various county seats checking records for oil companies to use in their leases. He was hired as an Electrical Engineer with KVU-TV Sayre-Elk City for 8 years, and in 1987 he was married to the love of his life, Toni Hernandez, but no children were born to this union.
As technology grew, the rural stations began to close, and Ed went back to his Medical Degree working at Roger Mills Memorial Hospital Lab and Wilbarger General Hospital Lab. He returned to school and earned his LPN degree and began a nursing career. He worked at Hensley’s Nursing Home and The Cheyenne Care Center. When the Care Center closed, he was able to help care for his mother and later his father. During this time, he also worked at Comfort Inn, Erick, OK. Ed loved his dad’s horses, and in later years loved going to his great nephews’ ball games, concerts, plays and other activities.
Ed is preceded in death by his grand-parents and parents. He is survived by one sister, Patricia Lee Toon Macumber, one nephew Jared Macumber and wife Elizabeth of Sayre, two nieces, Rozz Grigsby and her husband James of OKC, Annie Bewley and husband, Derek, also of OKC.
Also surviving are loves of his life, his great-nephews, Kagen Macumber, Taylor Grigsby, Elliott Grigsby, great niece, Rylee Quinn Bewley, in addition to his aunt Jo Helen (Toon) Chambers and uncle Bill Chambers, numerous cousins, other relatives and friends.
