Alvin H. Higgins was born on August 24, 1941 in Wheeler, TX to Aubrey and Marie (Hay) Higgins. He passed away on June 7, 2022 at the age of 80 years, 9 months and 14 days.
Alvin grew up in the Durham community before moving south of Cheyenne in 1961. Alvin worked for the Sante Fe railroad before driving a truck where his CB handle was "Brown Jug". Alvin married Vanetta (White) Higgins in 1971 and he continued to drive a truck until he went to work as a roughneck in the oilfield where he eventually worked his way up to a toolpusher. He farmed and helped his family with the cattle then went back to driving a truck again before retiring. He married Kathy Gillespie in 1990. They lived in Cheyenne and Elk City before finally settling in Sayre. Alvin enjoyed fishing and playing dominoes and attending the grandkids sporting events. In years past he enjoyed going to the horse races and the dirt track car races. He was a member of Trinity Fellowship Church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Vanetta and son, Allen Lynn Higgins, 1 granddaughter, Lacey Rhodes, 1 brother, Hershell Higgins and 1 sister, Juanita Pierce.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy, of the home, his daughter, Melisa Rhodes and fiance' Jeremy Jones, sons, Todd Gillespie and wife, Nikki, Travis Gillespie, Tynan Gillespie and honorary daughter, Tyna Hardin and husband, Ty, 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, 1 sister, Neva Churchill and husband, Sy, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
