Joy Leann (Maynard) Abla, 83, of Enid, Oklahoma, passed away January 11, 2020.
Leann was born in Cordell, Oklahoma on July 11, 1936, to L.O. and Vaneta Maynard. She had one brother, Ray Maynard. Leann attended elementary and high school in Cloud Chief and college at Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Leann was married to the love of her life Clifford Leon Abla in Clinton, OK on October 25, 1958; they were married for 35 years. Together they raised two children, Mike Abla and Cindy (Abla) Doane. Her family was the light of Leann’s life and she devoted herself to them. She served as a Cub Scout leader and home room mother at Hawthorne Elementary in Oklahoma City for several years.
Leann was saved on September 22, 1948, at Cloud Chief Methodist Church. She was baptized soon after. As a lifelong Christian, Leann attended church regularly wherever she lived. When she and Clifford married, they joined Hudson Avenue Baptist Church in Oklahoma City and then later moved their membership to Crestwood Baptist. In 1972, they moved to Erick, Oklahoma and joined First Baptist. Leann remained a member there even after moving to Enid in 2018. Leann not only sat in the pews each Sunday, she was active in many parts of church life including Girls Youth Leader, Junior High Department Pianist, Sunday School teacher, and Vacation Bible School teacher to name a few. She could always be counted on to bring some of her famous desserts to any church gathering. Leann instilled in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren a love for the Lord and desire to follow in his ways. Her example of a Godly woman touched many lives and was an inspiration.
Leann worked in many different fields, but they all had one thing in common: each required her wonderful rapport with people. She worked at Warren Transfer & Storage (United Van Lines), American Electric, the State Department of Education, and Puckett’s Grocery. The majority of her working career (36 years) was spent at Erick Elementary School as their secretary. In addition, Leann was a partner with her husband Clifford in Flowers Auto Supply from 1972, until the store closed in 2001.
Leann is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Stephanie Abla of Norman, Oklahoma, her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy (Abla) and Raymond Doane of Enid, Oklahoma, her four grandchildren, Alicia and (Aaron) Sheik, Brandon and (Takayla) Doane, Matt Doane, Ben Abla, and her eleven great-grandchildren.
Leann is preceded in death by her husband Clifford, her parents, L.O. and Vaneta Maynard and her brother, Ray Maynard.
