Whinery Funeral Service Shows Support for Firefighters during Wildfire Outbreak

Over the past several days, wildfires have raged across Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas. This week in Oklahoma alone, over 833,000 acres have been scorched, numerous homes burned, livestock killed, and families devastated. Local fire departments, both paid and volunteer, have worked thousands of man hours and continue to risk their lives to ensure that their fellow Oklahomans, neighbors, and families stay safe.

Carl Billey, Whinery Funeral Service General Manager and proud member of the Sayre Fire Department stated: "Many of these departments operate on very limited budgets that are already stretched thin as the drought continues and grassfire season begins. Most funds are spent on fuel and vehicle repairs which leaves few available dollars to purchase supplies needed to rehabilitate the firefighters.”

These departments are in need of bottled water, Gatorade, packaged ready-to-eat foods such as fruit snacks, nuts, granola and protein bars, and lip balm to supply their members while in the field.

Whinery Funeral Service was honored to donate 21 cases of water, 2 cases of Gatorade and several boxes of granola bars which were hand delivered to Roger Mills Emergency Management facility, Canute Fire Department, Elk City Fire Department, Carter Fire Department, and Delhi Fire Department. Whinery Funeral Service asks that you join them and others in helping these hometown heroes with a donation of the aforementioned supplies or money. No donation is too small.

Delhi Fire Chief Bandy Silk, Carter Fire Chief Chad Rippetoe and Reydon Fire Chief Monty Markham all agreed "People can't begin to understand how much those donations mean to our departments. We can't thank our community enough for their support"

If you are unable to drop off your donation directly to a fire department, 3 businesses in Elk City (The Attic Door, Cash Advance America and Pedro's Mexican Restaurant) have graciously volunteered to serve as collection points and will ensure that the supplies are distributed to the appropriate fire departments. If you would like to make a monetary donation, please send it c/o SOUTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA FIREMANS CLUB, 1000 N 4th, Sayre, OK 73362.
