Life Legacy


Rev. J. Albert Warnken was born September 22, 1924 in Yoakum, Texas to Josie M and Joseph A. Warnken. He passed away February 4, 2010 at Sayre, Oklahoma at the age of 85 years, 4 months and 12 days.

Albert graduated from Yoakum High School in 1941. In 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country during World War II. Albert was on a tour of duty for 21 months in the South Pacific where he received the Air Medal three times. He was honorably discharged in February of 1946 and returned to Texas where he was married to Helen M. Reese at Eagle Lake, TX on April 28, 1946.
Albert was saved in a Sunday night service in the First Baptist Church of Welch, LA and answered the call of Gospel Ministry in 1952. He was licensed and ordained by the First Baptist Church of Eagle Lake, TX in August of 1952 and January of 1954, respectively. Albert received his B.A. Degree from East Texas Baptist College in Marshall, TX in 1956. He later attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX where he served as the president of his senior class. Albert served on many boards and committees from associational to state level and was also an Evangelist in revival meetings in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Ohio, Utah and Oklahoma. He pastored at many churches across Texas and in 1974, he became the pastor at Memorial Baptist Church in Grapevine, Texas. He remained there until 1979 when he moved to Sayre, Oklahoma to be the minister at the First Baptist Church. In 1985, they moved to Jacksboro where he pastored at the First Baptist Church until returning to Sayre in 1988, pastoring at the Lone Oak Baptist Church until his retirement in 1997. He and Helen then moved to Erick, Oklahoma to make their home where they were members of First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 infant sisters, 2 sisters, Bernice Reese and Helen Miller.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen; 1 daughter, Sheryn Ruth Warnken of Woodward, OK; 1 son, Paul Albert Warnken of Erick, OK and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the Oklahoma Baptist Children's Home or the Gideons.
